Dr Freddy Goh is the founder and Managing Director of Solar Energy Power Pte Ltd (SEP). Born in Singapore, Dr Goh studied electrical engineering at the
University of Arkansas in the US. After receiving his doctorate in 1992, he began work as an engineer for process engineering at Texas Instruments in Dallas,
Texas.
In 1996, he founded ABM Semiconductors in Singapore as a managing partner. The company specialized in the development and production of wet bench
technology, being recognized for its innovative methods of wafer processing and preparation in the year of its founding.
Dr. Freddy Goh
A year later, he founded ISP in
Singapore, specialized in Wafer Reclaim for the semiconductor industry. In 2006, Dr Goh founded Singapore's first solar cell manufacturing plant - Solar Energy Power Pte Ltd (SEP), which turns raw wafers into high-quality solar cells, ready for assembly into solar modules.
Currently, the solar cells are mainly for export to the Solar-Fabrik European market. The plant commenced operations in March 2007 with 5 MW of production
capacity. With some investments in automation, that capacity reached its current maximum level of 10 MW. Further capacity is being planned.
SEP is also engaged in R&D to improve the efficiency of its products.
In little over a year, the company was able to bring consistently the efficiencies from 14% to 16%+ and
counting. Frankfurt-listed Solar-Fabrik AG, a high quality solar module manufacturer and PV systems supplier from Germany, acquired a 33% stake in SEP in May
2006. As of the end of 2007, it holds 90% of the shares at SEP.
